Once you have connected to the network, it is very important that you update Windows. Without installing the critical updates, you may not be allowed to use the RIT network.

Windows Vista

You can access Windows Update by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Windows Icon
  2. Select, and click the All Programs option.
  3. Select, and click the Windows Update icon.

If there are updates it will display the above image. Click on the button to update your computer

You have updated your computer. Remember to check for updates often, to keep your computer safe.

Updatating Windows 2000/XP

Click here, or go to http://www.windowsupdate.com.

You can also access Windows updates by following these steps:

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Select the Programs menu.
  3. In the Programs menu, click on Internet Explorer.

Once in Internet Explorer, select Windows Update under the Tools option.
(Note: You can only apply Windows Updates through Internet Explorer. Other web browsers will not work.)

Now, click the Express option.
Express updates
Windows Update will then check your computer to see which updates are necessary.
Once it has finished, click on Install Updates, and follow any instructions.

Return to the Windows Update page and repeat the process until there are no more critical updates.
You will see a notification that all high-priority updates are currently installed on the system.
