ITS Telecommunications Services
The ITS Telecommunications Services at RIT provides quality communication services for RIT students, faculty, and staff. Detailed below are the instructions and descriptions of the services offered by the Telecommunications Office for each specific residential area at RIT.
Local Telephone Service
RIT Residence Halls
All residence hall rooms have a single telephone line and two wall jacks, one on each side of the room. Each phone line has local service.
If you want a phone in your room, you will need to supply it.
RIT Apartment Complexes
Each apartment has a single telephone line provided by RIT which is typically located in the kitchen. Each phone line has local service.
If you want a phone in your apartment, you will need to supply it.
- To add additional equipment or lines - Call Housing Operations at 475-2572. Any additional lines are billed directly to the student.
- For repairs or support contact RIT Telecom at 475-5800
- Note: Riverknoll apartments continue to be serviced by Frontier Communications. Riverknoll residents should contact Frontier with any phone related issues at 377-1200
RIT Inn & Conference Center
All rooms at the RIT Inn have a single telephone line with local service. The rooms are supplied with telephones; however students can use their own phones if they wish.

- Single ring-Indicates a call from an on-campus telephone.
- Two rings-Indicates a call from an off-campus telephone.

- Single flashes (1 Flash, pause)-Indicates a call from an on-campus telephone.
- Two flashes (2 Flashes, pause)-Indicates a call from an off-campus telephone.

Telephone Feature: Residence Halls
Last Number Dialed
The Last Number Dialed (LND) feature re-dials the last telephone number called from your telephone. To use LND:
- Lift handset and obtain dial tone.
- Press # button.
- Press 8, hear ringing or see TTY flashing light.
Campus Telephones
Telephones for on-campus calls are available in the lobbies of the Student Alumni Union and the Wallace Library. Courtesy/Emergency telephones which are directly connected to RIT Campus Safety are found on the outside of heavily used buildings and major walkway.
