Installation Instructions for Spybot
Click the link above to download a copy of Spybot Search & Destroy. For ease of installing it is recommended to simply choose the Open button on the File Download window, but you may also save it to your hard drive first. (To save it, pick a location you can easily find, such as the desktop, and you will need to double-click spybotsd13.exe to begin the install process.)
Click Next to begin the install process. You will be prompted to read and accept the license agreement, so be sure to check I agree and continue.
Choose a location on your computer to install the program to. In almost all cases, the default of C:\Program Files is just fine, so click Next to continue.
You may choose to install foreign languages if you prefer to use the software in another language. Additional high-visibility icons are also available for those who may require them. Click Next to continue.
You may choose to have an icon created for Spybot on your Start Menu. Make your selection and click Next to continue.
In this step you may create a desktop icon, or a quick launch icon (the area on your task bar to the right of your Start button.) You may also choose to install the optional permanent protection items. The SDHelper option is a helper application that will protect Internet Explorer from some potentially harmful items. The Tea Timer option is a separate program that will run every time your computer starts and will sit in the task tray in the lower right hand corner. Tea Timer watches over important system settings that may be changed by an adware or spyware program and will warn you if a program is attempting to make a change. Tea Timer does provide an extra level of protection, but it may confuse novice users, so if you are not comfortable with making decisions about important system configuration settings it is best to leave Tea Timer unchecked. Click "Next" to continue after you have made your choices.
That's it! Spybot is successfully installed. Make sure Run SpybotSD.exe is unchecked, then click Finish.
