RIT Software and Services

Mcafee VirusScan

McAfee Virus Scanner Enterprise 8.7i

Viruses, especially those spread through e-mail on susceptible systems, are a clear threat to electronic services at RIT.

For Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Vista computers, RIT provides MacAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.7i anti-virus software to help keep your computer free from infections by computer viruses, Trojan horses, and worms. 8.7i also offers buffer overflow protection, which can prevent spyware and viruses from crashing your computer. This software is very important -- and it must be kept up to date to be effective.

McAfee VirusScan Entrprise 8.7i is offered to students for free. It is important that students do not install this virus scanner if they have Norton or any other virus scanner currently on their computer. Having two virus scanners will dramatically decrease the speed of the system. Installing a copy of McAfee from the school will allow you to have a perpetual agreement( you do not have to keep a subscription ). Students requiring assistance in uninstalling another brand of Virus Scanner may contact Resnet at 475-2600.

It is best to update virus definitions daily and run a virus scan weekly to ensure that your computer is protected. It only takes a second to update and a few minutes to scan the machine. Taking these simple steps could prevent a time-consuming virus infection later. RIT Students may download McAfee Enterprise 8.7i for free at: http://www.rit.edu/~wwwits/services/security/software.html

myCourses (Desire 2 Learn)

myCourses is an online course management tool used extensively by students and faculty at RIT. The myCourses portal is populated with all of the student's courses at the beginning of each quarter. Instructors may populate their course shells with lectures, videos, slides, class discussions, calendars for the class, and even tests/quizzes. Professors may also customize their course shells to reflect their course work expectations. You should be instructed by individual professors on how to proceed with each specific course. The myCourses system can be found at http://mycourses.rit.edu.

my.rit.edu

myRIT is Rochester Institute of Technology's portal providing the RIT community a customizable web page that can be personalized with news, services, resources, and access to online courses. Users can also view their Tiger Bucks and debit balances from the comfort of their dorm rooms.
