Keeping your machine connected to the network
Please be aware that any machine that does not comply with RIT's security standards will be blocked from the network to protect the rest of the RIT community and its services.
Quarantine/Blocking Process and Expectations
Users can be blocked from the network for many different reasons. When a machine has a virus while connected to a network as large as RIT's, it is very easy to spread viruses to hundreds of other users. Therefore, when a machine is infected with a virus that could be harmful, it is blocked from the network.
Please click here for information about computer cleaning tools.
After you have cleaned your machine, contact the Resnet office at 475-2600 to regain network access. Before we allow a machine back on the network, we will ask how you cleaned your machine to ensure that all necessary steps were completed. If your machine gets blocked again because it was not cleaned properly, you will have to take it to Resnet to have it cleaned by one of our staff members.
Off Campus Reports
As a member of the RIT community, you are responsible for all your actions on the network.
Your IP Address can be located by anyone on the World Wide Web and outside individuals can report
any harmful activity to RIT. If this report is from a reliable source, RIT will investigate the situation.
