Network Registration, your key to the Internet!
Once you have properly configured your computer, you must register it on the RIT network. Please note: Only computers physically connected to the RIT network can be regsitered. This means you can not register a computer before you arive on campus.
This step can not be completed from off campus.
- Be sure you have your computer plugged into an RIT wall jack, or have an active RIT wireless connection.
- Open your web browser. Most browsers have a default homepage set, this page will not load prior to registration. You should automatically
be redirected to http://start.rit.edu. This is the only webpage you will be able to load until you register your
computer.
- If the page does not automatically load: Type http://start.rit.edu in the address line of your web browser and press enter. If the page still does not load, you probably need to configure your computer to automatically detect proxy settings. To do this in Windows, click on "Start", then "Control Panel". In "Control Panel", double-click on "Internet Options". This will open up a new window labeled "Internet Properties". Click on the tab labeled "Connections" and then click on the button labeled "LAN Settings" towards the bottom of the window. Make sure that the box labeled "Automatically detect settings" is the only box checked. Now try to access http://start.rit.edu.
- If you are using your RIT computer account for the first time( or you do not have an RIT username or password ), you will need to click the "Activate your RIT Computer Account" link
first, and follow the directions there.
- Return to the Start page if necessary, and click the "Register your computer" link.
- Enter your RIT username and password and click OK.
- Follow the instructions for each of the steps on this page. Make sure you read and check the box for the RIT Code of Conduct.
- After successfully registering, you may need to wait up to 30 minutes for the registration to take effect. If your computer is not able to access the Internet after 30 minutes, reboot it, and try again. If you receive an error message during the registration process, please contact the Resnet office. 475-2600 V or 475-4927 TTY
