Updating and Scanning with Virex

You may download Virex virus definitions updates directly within either version of Virex.

If you have difficulty obtaining eUpdates or want to download virus definitions manually, consult the McAfee update site.

Virex 7 both include an eUpdate feature that lets you update your virus definitions on-demand. Virex 7 will also let you schedule eUpdate or scanning actions, and will automatically try to run the eUpdate check each time you launch the Virex application (you may disable this in the preferences if you wish) or log in to your Mac OS X user account.

When your computer boots up, you will be given the option to scan. Otherwise, you can launch Virex from the Applications Folder.

Virus Attacks and Prevention

It is important to be armed with the latest anti-virus defenses before virus attacks take place. If you stay up-to-date with Virex, there is less of a chance that your computer will be compromised due to a virus infection.

Even though it may seem like there are no viruses for Mac OS X, that is not a good reason for avoiding an active virus defense. There are known malicious applications for both operating systems — and whether they can be classified as viruses or not, Virex can help prevent your computer from being affected by them.

We also recommend that you consider a Mac OS X security audit of your computer periodically, and keep in mind other basic security tips.
