The ITS Help Desk

The ITS HelpDesk is available to answer questions or assist with problems related to using the computing resources at RIT. In general, the ITS HelpDesk is a first level contact point for technical questions regarding your RIT computer account, questions about your computer's operating system, RIT information technology and computer resources, and other general computer related questions. Common issues the ITS HelpDesk can assist you with include:

Account Issues

Activating your RIT Computer Account

If you are a new student, and have not already done so, go to http://start.rit.edu and click on the "Activate my account" link to begin using your RIT computer account.

Changing your RIT Computer Account Password

To change the password for your RIT computer account, go to http://start.rit.edu and click on the "Change your password" link. If you have forgotten your password, you can contact the ITS HelpDesk either in person or by phone to obtain a new password.

Account Security Issues

Be sure to change your password often, you can help protect your computer account and the files or assignments you store on it. Try to memorize your password instead of writing it down. RIT's Information and Technology Services (ITS) department recommends you change your password periodically. Don't store your password inside an electronic file or other location that is accessible to other people. If you forget your password, the ITS HelpDesk can can assist you with resetting your account. Computer Account Policies

Computer accounts and the files stored in those accounts are the property of RIT. ITS and other departments with which accounts are associated have the right to review and delete accounts and their contents. Please read and understand the policy guideline documents available from the ITS HelpDesk. The latest policy information can be found on the Web at: http://www.rit.edu/its/about/policies

Account Maintenance and Terms of Access

Your computer account remains valid and accessible only if you are currently registered as an RIT student. Student accounts are disabled after the second consecutive add/drop period without a registration. This includes RIT Alumni. If an Alum does not register for classes for two consecutive quarters, their account is also disabled. The disabled accounts are retained for six months and then they are deleted.
